What is Microneedling?
A treatment that is used for skin rejuvenation, microneedling offers a minimally invasive solution to improve facial appearances as signs of aging begin to take hold.
The procedure itself, commonly known as collagen induction therapy, takes about 1 ½ hours. During this time, the natural healing process of the skin is activated through creating many microscopic channels in the skin that are administered to the targeted areas through very fine needles.
As we age, our bodies lose the ability to naturally create collagen and elastin. These are two components that maintain a firm and smooth look to our skin. Microneedling prompts the body to rebuild theses missing ingredients in the affected areas with a side effect of looking younger with tighter skin.
The Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling can help with more than just smoother, younger looking skin. It can also reduce the appearance of brown spots, pore size, fine lines, stretch marks, hair loss and scars such as those caused by severe acne and surgery.
With the new advancement that includes platelet rich plasma (PRP) as part of the treatment, we can stimulate tissue regeneration and increase collagen production to reduce lines and brighten the skin. PRP uses your own body’s natural nutrients found in the blood. These plasma nutrients are infused into your skin through micro-channels that are formed during the microneedling procedure. And because they come from your own body, there is no risk of any adverse reaction.
With no invasive procedures, microneedling requires little recovery time and it is suited to treat most skin types. By using topical anesthetics, the treatment is very comfortable and quick, with minimal side effects regardless of which part of the body is being treated.
Microneedling Side Effects
Everyone is different but ordinarily, there is little to no downtime after the treatment. There may be some mild swelling and redness that clears soon after the procedure. Results can be noticed within 7 days but results can take up to 9 months as the body builds collagen in your skin.
